The objectives of the IMO are:

  1. To promote and maintain the honour and interests of the medical profession
  2. To participate in the conduct of medical education
  3. To sustain the professional standards of medical ethics.
  4. To serve as the integrated voice of the profession.
  5. To encourage and promote ethical medical research.
  6. To educate and direct public opinion on public health matters.
  7. To promote social, cultural, and charitable activities across the country.
  8. To help the families of the deceased, disabled and ailing members of the profession.
  9. To carrying on a campaign against quackery and other unhealthy practices in the country.
  10. To urging the Government to raise the standard of medical education in medical colleges.
  11. Play an advocacy role towards comprehensive curative and preventive health services for the people of  India
  12. To promote professionalism, good medical practice and ethical conduct among doctors of the country.
  13. Enhancing closer professional and scientific links between medical doctors and allied health professionals.
  14. To maintain cooperation and solidarity amongst the members of the Organization, and to faster the spirit of brotherhood.
  15. To provide opportunities for continuous professional development of doctors and allied health professionals.
  16. To guide and help members of the profession especially new entrants in the establishment of their career.
  17. To draw the member of Medical Profession and the general public, they serve and develop better understanding between them.
  18. To enhance the capacity as an apex professional and scientific organization for all categories of medical doctors as defined in the constitution of the IMO.
  19. To disseminate state-of the art knowledge, clinical practice, technology and emerging concepts in medical sciences among medical and allied health professionals.
  20. To safeguard and defend the interest and integrity of the members of the Medical Profession through ethical, moral or legal means at the disposal of the Organization.
  21. To give professional and expert help, advice and cooperation of the Medical profession to the Government and the organized bodies in their work on the administration and management of health matter and Medical Education etc,.
  22.  To maintain the honour and dignity of the Medical Profession and to protect the interest, rights and privileges of the members of the Organization and to develop the sprit amongst the members for doing their duty, Medical, Ethical, Social and Civil in all aspects of the national and individual life.
